Counseling: What to Expect at Atlas Concepts

Many believe the counseling experience begins once there is a Treatment Plan in place. A Treatment Plan details your goals and objectives for therapy and provides a general roadmap for treatment. While in some ways the Treatment Plan does mark the commencement of your therapy, your experience with us begins at first glance and we want to always advocate for mental health and leave you with a distinguished impression.

Therapy can be summed up in many ways but cannot be contained in a box. At the end of the day therapy-seekers are looking for an experience and outcomes. While your experience with counseling will differ with each therapist, the company has a relatively standardized administrative process to help facilitate the beginning of your therapeutic journey.

Our Process

  1. We recommend viewing prospective therapists’ profile pages prior to reaching out in order to understand what type of services are provided, the hours of availability, populations served, and network status with insurance providers.
  2. Submit an initial inquiry for therapy which is typically accomplished through email, website contact form, telephone, or via professional referral.
  3. You will be asked to share an email address up front which will be used to invite you to our secure online client portal. The portal is used to securely communicate with your counselor, complete necessary forms, upload documents, schedule appointments, and make payments. You will receive an email prompting you to establish a login to our client portal and complete a profile and relatively short initial screening.
  4. Once your form has been reviewed by staff you will receive an email with the next step. This will either be a request to review and complete intake forms or a recommendation to a more appropriate service provider based on responses to the initial screening. You will also be provided an understanding of the costs associated with services and the accepted forms of payment.
  5. When your intake forms are complete and you have submitted a copy or image of a valid government photo ID and your insurance card. You will be contacted by your therapist to coordinate the time and date of your initial appointment.
  6. Initial appointments are typically a Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation(*) which can feel more like an interview than counseling. Attending your first appointment establishes your needs and allows for both you and your counselor to determine the potential for outcomes.

(*) For individuals who are not familiar with the counseling process or who have extensive questions or concerns, a consultation may be an appropriate first step versus the Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation. Make sure to inform your counselor as soon as possible if you desire to participate in a consultation.
